Dear Bahia Vista Families,
This week we’re celebrating Digital Citizenship Week (October 6-10)! This week helps students learn how to be safe, responsible, and respectful online—skills that matter now more than ever.
In class, students will explore:
- Protecting personal information
- Balancing screen time and well-being
- Showing kindness online
- Thinking critically about what they see and share
You can support these lessons at home by:
- Talking with your child about how they use technology
- Setting clear screen time limits
- Encouraging kindness and respect online
- Exploring their favorite apps and games together

Second Step – Unit 1, Lesson 5
This week, students in TK–5th grade continued learning important social-emotional skills through Second Step. In Unit 1, Lesson 5, students are practicing how to recognize and understand their own feelings and respect the feelings of others. These skills help build empathy, strengthen friendships, and create a positive classroom community. Ask your child what feeling words they learned this week and how they can show kindness at school and at home!
National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month-(October 20th through 24th)
October is a time to come together as a school community to promote kindness, inclusion, and respect. Bullying—whether in person or online—can have lasting effects, and it’s important that we work together to create a safe environment for every child.
Throughout the month, our school will focus on activities that encourage empathy, friendship, and standing up for others. We’ll share resources with students about how to recognize bullying, how to report it, and how to support peers who may be experiencing it.
Families play a vital role in bullying prevention! You can help by:
- Talking with your child about what bullying looks like and feels like.
- Encouraging them to speak up if they see someone being treated unfairly.
- Modeling kindness and respect in everyday interactions.
Together, we can make our school a place where everyone feels valued and safe.
Attendance Matters
Attendance is a key part of every student’s success, and we are grateful for your partnership in making sure students are present and on time each day. Last school year, our overall district attendance rate was 96.6%, and while this showed many families’ strong commitment, we know we can do even better.
So far this year, our district attendance rate is 97%, which is a good start, but we want to keep improving together. Every day in school matters. Even just a few absences or tardies can add up and impact learning. By working together, we can help give all students the best chance to learn, grow, and succeed.
In service,
Julio Villalobos, Ed.D.
