Principal Message

Dear Bahia Vista Families,

Second Step Unit 2 Lesson 8 - Managing Emotions
This week, students in all grades are continuing to build their social-emotional skills through Second Step’s Unit 2: Emotion Management. In Lesson 8, students learn and practice strategies to calm down strong feelings—like anger, frustration, or excitement—so they can make thoughtful choices and solve problems respectfully.
  • TK–2nd Grade: Students practice recognizing when their bodies are giving them clues that feelings are getting strong (like a fast heartbeat or tight muscles). They learn simple calm-down stepsStop, Name the Feeling, Calm Down—using deep breathing or counting to help them stay in control.
  • 3rd–5th Grade: Students go deeper by identifying personal triggers and learning how to pause and choose helpful responses. They discuss real-life situations where staying calm can lead to better outcomes and practice positive self-talk to manage emotions.
At home, you can support this lesson by talking with your child about what helps them calm down when they’re upset and practicing those strategies together.

ZunZun Water Assembly
Students will participate in the ZunZun Water Assembly, an engaging, musical performance that will teach the importance of water conservation and environmental stewardship. Through songs, storytelling, and interactive activities, students will learn how water connects all living things and how small actions can make a big difference for our planet. The assembly will inspire our school community to care for local waterways and value this vital natural resource.

TK/Kinder Vision and Hearing Screening
Our annual Vision and Hearing Screenings for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will take place from Tuesday, November 4 through Thursday, November 6. These screenings help ensure that our youngest learners are seeing and hearing their best as they begin their educational journey. If any concerns are identified, families will be notified with follow-up recommendations. Thank you for helping us support every student’s success

☕ Bahia Vista Coffee Club – Fridays Are Brewing!
Our new Coffee Club gives students a fun chance to socialize with staff and parents while learning real-life skills like making coffee, taking orders, and giving correct change. With guidance from Ms. Bogiages, students will run the coffee station every Friday morning. Parents, support our student baristas—grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the experience!

In service,
Julio Villalobos

You’re Invited: Coffee with the Principal

Join us for Coffee with the Principal on Thursday, November 6, from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. in the Family Resource Center (FRC).

This informal gathering is a wonderful opportunity to connect, share ideas, and learn more about how parent engagement supports student success.

Our discussion will highlight the role of the English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) in fostering meaningful parent involvement. ELAC provides a voice for families, helping shape programs and activities that support English learners and strengthen our school community.

Whether you are new to our school or have been part of our community for years, your insights and participation make a difference. Come enjoy coffee, conversation, and a chance to collaborate on initiatives that enhance student learning and family engagement. We look forward to seeing you there!

Attendance Matters!

At Bahia Vista Elementary School,

We believe that every day counts. Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in ensuring student success. When students are present, they engage in learning, build strong habits, and strengthen our school community.

I am excited to share that from October 27-30, our students showed great commitment to being present and ready to learn. A special congratulations goes out to Ms. Doving’s, Ms. Schulman & Ms. Solano’s Class with 100% attendance rate for primary grade (TK-2nd) and Mr. Littee’s & Ms. Mackay’s  Class with a 100% attendance rate for upper grades (3rd-5th grade).

All classes were given a dragon stuff animal that they keep for the week and return it at our next PBIS rally. Your dedication to showing up every day sets a shining example for our entire school.

Let’s continue to make attendance a priority. Together, we can help our students build a bright future—one school day at a time!
