Principal Message

Dear Bahia Vista Families,

English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC)
The ELPAC is the required state test for K–12 students whose primary language is not English, designed to measure English language proficiency in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. It consists of an Initial assessment for identification and a Summative assessment for tracking progress.

As part of our commitment to supporting every student’s academic success, we would like to inform you about the upcoming English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC).
The ELPAC is an important state assessment that measures how well students are progressing in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Students who are identified as English Learners participate in this annual assessment.

The ELPAC is one of the ways we monitor student progress and ensure they receive the support needed to succeed academically. If you have any questions about the assessment or your child’s participation, please contact your students teacher. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education.

Parent-Teacher Conferences | March 16–20, 2026
We are looking forward to our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will take place from March 16–20, 2026. These conferences provide an important opportunity for us to work together in support of your child’s academic growth, social development, and overall success.

During your scheduled conference, you will have the chance to:
  • Review your child’s academic progress and current performance
  • Discuss strengths and areas for continued growth
  • Ask questions about curriculum, classroom expectations, and assessments
  • Partner with teachers to set goals for the remainder of the school year
Strong communication between home and school is one of the most powerful tools we have to help students thrive. We encourage every family to participate.

Scheduling Information:
Conference sign-ups have been shared by your child’s teacher. Please be sure to select a time that works best for your family. If you need assistance with scheduling, translation services, or have specific concerns you would like addressed during the meeting, please let your students teacher know.

Attendance Matters!

As we begin the new year, we remain committed to the importance of regular school attendance and look forward to starting 2026 on a strong note. Consistent attendance plays a vital role in student learning, engagement, and success. To support this goal, we invite families to consider the following New Year’s Attendance Resolutions:

  • Be consistent: Establish a daily routine with a regular bedtime and morning schedule. Prepare clothing, school materials, and other essentials the night before, and use alarm clocks to support timely mornings.
  • Be organized: Whenever possible, schedule medical appointments and family travel outside of school hours or during school breaks.
  • Be direct: Talk with your child about the importance of attending school on time every day and how it contributes to their academic and personal growth.
  • Be mindful: Monitor your child’s attendance and stay aware of any missed days. Partner with the school if challenges arise, and recognize and celebrate improvements and positive habits.
  • Be healthy: Encourage an active lifestyle and ensure your child gets adequate rest so they arrive at school refreshed, focused, and ready to learn.

I am excited to share that from February 23-26, our students showed great commitment to being present and ready to learn. A special congratulations goes out to Ms. Disanto’s Class with an 98.91% attendance rate for primary grade (TK-2nd) and Ms. Koller’s class with a 98.96% attendance rate for upper grades (3rd-5th grade). All classes were given a dragon stuff animal that they keep for the week and return it at our next PBIS rally. Your dedication to showing up every day sets a shining example for our entire school. Let’s continue to make attendance a priority. Together, we can help our students build a bright future—one school day at a time!
