Dear Bahia Vista Families,

Upcoming ELPAC Testing for Grades K-2 📝
It is time for our annual ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California) testing! This assessment helps us understand how our students are progressing in their English language development and ensures we are providing the best possible support for their learning.

🗓️ Important Dates
Testing for our Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade students will take place between: Tuesday, April 28 – Friday, May 15

🔍 What to Expect
For our younger learners (K-2), the ELPAC is administered one-on-one with a trained examiner. This allows your child to feel comfortable and supported while they show us what they know in:
  • Listening
  • Speaking
  • Reading
  • Writing

🌟 How You Can Help
You can help your child do their best by:
  1. Ensuring a good night’s sleep: Rested brains are ready to learn!
  2. Eating a healthy breakfast: Fuel is important for focus.
  3. Arriving on time: Being at school by the first bell helps students feel calm and ready for the day.
  4. Encouragement: Remind them to simply try their best—we are already so proud of their hard work!
If you have any questions regarding the testing schedule or the assessment itself, please contact your child's teacher

🔬 Unlock Your Child's Future: Free STEM Workshops for Families!
We are committed to preparing our students for the world of tomorrow. That is why I am so excited to invite you to a special FREE 4-week STEM Program for Families, presented in partnership with the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE).

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is more than just a school subject—it’s the fastest-growing career sector in the country. Currently, STEM jobs are growing at 24%, while other fields are growing at only 4%. We want to make sure our students are ready to lead the way!

🌟 Why Should Your Family Attend?
This program is designed to give you the tools and knowledge to support your child’s interest in innovation. Together, we will explore:
  • Career Pathways: Learn about the incredible opportunities available in STEM.
  • Hands-on Fun: Interactive activities to spark curiosity and creativity.
  • Success Resources: Practical tools to help guide your student toward a bright future.

📝 How to Get Started
There is no cost to participate, but the impact on your child's future could be priceless! We want to ensure every family has equitable access to these essential resources. Zoom Link is provided below.

Lets have a wonderful week, Dragons!

In service,
Julio Villalobos

Attendance Matters!

At Bahia Vista Elementary, we remain committed to the importance of regular school attendance. Consistent attendance plays a vital role in student learning, engagement, and success. To support this goal, we invite families to consider the following:

  • Be consistent: Establish a daily routine with a regular bedtime and morning schedule. Prepare clothing, school materials, and other essentials the night before, and use alarm clocks to support timely mornings.
  • Be organized: Whenever possible, schedule medical appointments and family travel outside of school hours or during school breaks.
  • Be direct: Talk with your child about the importance of attending school on time every day and how it contributes to their academic and personal growth.
  • Be mindful: Monitor your child’s attendance and stay aware of any missed days. Partner with the school if challenges arise, and recognize and celebrate improvements and positive habits.
  • Be healthy: Encourage an active lifestyle and ensure your child gets adequate rest so they arrive at school refreshed, focused, and ready to learn.

Let’s continue to make attendance a priority. Together, we can help our students build a bright future—one school day at a time!
