Principal Newsletter

October 12-16

Dear Bahia Vista Families,

At Bahia Vista Elementary, safety is our top priority. On Thursday, October 15, at 8:45 AM, our school will join millions of students and educators across California and around the world in The Great ShakeOut, an annual earthquake drill. Practicing safety drills helps our students and staff build muscle memory so we can respond quickly, calmly, and safely in an actual emergency.
What to Expect During the Drill
  • At 8:45 AM, students and staff will practice the Drop, Cover, and Hold On technique inside their classrooms.
  • After practicing the drop, classes will safely evacuate to their designated area to practice our emergency headcount procedure.
  • The drill will last approximately 5-10 minutes, after which students will return to their regular learning day.
How You Can Support at Home
  1. Talk with Your Child: Reassure them that this is only a practice drill designed to keep everyone safe.
  2. Review "Drop, Cover, and Hold On":
  • DROP onto hands and knees.
  • COVER head and neck under a sturdy table or desk.
  • HOLD ON until the shaking stops.
  1. Check Your Emergency Contacts: Please contact the main office to ensure your emergency contact information and phone numbers are up to date, if necessary.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping Bahia Vista safe and prepared! Please feel free to reach out to the main office if you have any questions.
