Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)
Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)
At Bahia Vista Elementary School, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our school uses Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS), a schoolwide framework that focuses on teaching, modeling, recognizing, and reinforcing positive behaviors. Through PBIS, we establish clear expectations, build positive relationships, and support students in developing the skills they need to be successful at school and beyond.
Our Dragon Expectations
At Bahia Vista, we have three schoolwide expectations that guide how we learn, play, and interact with one another:
Be Respectful
We treat others with kindness, use appropriate language, listen to one another, and show care for our school community.
Be Responsible
We take ownership of our actions, make safe choices, care for our belongings and school environment, and work to solve problems.
Be Ready to Learn
We come to school prepared, participate in learning, follow directions, and approach challenges with a positive attitude.
These expectations are explicitly taught, modeled, and reinforced throughout the school year in classrooms, on the playground, in common areas, and during schoolwide activities.
Dragon Awards
At Bahia Vista, we love recognizing students who demonstrate our Dragon Expectations!
Students can earn Dragon Awards when staff members recognize them for being respectful, responsible, or ready to learn. Dragon Awards celebrate positive choices and encourage students to continue demonstrating behaviors that contribute to a welcoming and supportive school community.
PBIS Rallies & Student Recognition
Throughout the school year, we come together as a school community for PBIS rallies and celebrations.
These gatherings provide opportunities to:
-
Review and reinforce our Dragon Expectations
-
Recognize students for demonstrating positive behaviors
-
Celebrate academic achievement, personal growth, and positive character traits
-
Build school spirit and a sense of belonging
-
Encourage student leadership and participation
Through our Dragon Excellence Awards, we recognize students for their accomplishments, growth, and contributions to our school community.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
Social-emotional learning is an important part of our schoolwide approach to supporting students.
Through daily SEL instruction, classroom activities, and schoolwide initiatives, students develop skills that help them:
-
Recognize and manage their emotions
-
Build positive relationships with peers and adults
-
Demonstrate empathy and kindness
-
Make responsible decisions
-
Resolve conflicts and solve problems
-
Develop resilience and a growth mindset
Our goal is to help students develop the social-emotional skills they need to navigate challenges, build meaningful relationships, and become confident, caring members of their community.
Supporting Every Student
We recognize that students have different strengths, experiences, and needs. Our PBIS framework emphasizes teaching expectations, providing encouragement, and responding to behavior in ways that help students learn and grow.
When students need additional support, our school team works collaboratively with teachers, families, and support staff to identify strategies and interventions that promote student success.
We believe that positive relationships, consistent expectations, and a supportive school environment are essential to helping every student thrive.
Families Are Our Partners!
Families play an important role in reinforcing positive behaviors and supporting student success.
We encourage families to talk with their children about our three Dragon Expectations and celebrate the ways they demonstrate respect, responsibility, and readiness to learn both at school and at home.
Together, we can create a positive school community where every Dragon feels safe, supported, and ready to succeed!
